Q: Is the backing something like foam that will support using pins to secure the item I am displaying? I want to display heavy necklaces and conceal thin wirie pushed into the backing like pins.

  A: The backing in this frame is felt and cardboard. They are each about 5/16 of an inch thick.
  
  It comes with a Velcro strip to attach to the item and then to the backing. I don't believe pins would work on this item.
